It was back on October 4 that I wrote a blog begging the President to make a decision regarding the desperate plea from General Stanley McChrytstal for 40,000 more troops to be sent to Afghanistan.
And now here we are three weeks later and STILL no decision has been made. Instead, the President has done campaign rallies for Democrat Governors in trouble; fund raisers; played golf (in fact played golf more in his first nine months than President Bush did in his first term!); played hoops and then in the early hours of this morning, took a trip to Dover Air Force base in Delaware to salute the flag draped coffins containing more of our brave men and women coming home.
We DO need to win in Afghanistan. The potential for it to become a staging base for major terrorist attacks on the United States is huge. The potential for a successful takeover of NUCLEAR Pakistan is equally huge.
BUT, equally important is that our brave men and women are in harms way; under manned, under equipped and with a growing feeling of not being supported by the Commander in Chief.
So this is where I'd really like to use that famous phrase which ends with "get off the pot". The bottom line here is support them and give them what they need or BRING THEM HOME.
This isn't about whether you are in favor of our continued presence in Afghanistan. This could not be more simple. This is about placing them in a MUCH HIGHER level of danger than they would otherwise need to be in.
He has sent some troops and he is hold a meeting with the Joint Chiefs tomorrow, but despite having this request on his desk for FOUR months, he has STILL not made the big decision.
I really hope this is not the case, but I just have this weird feeling that the President doesn't want to make the call until after the forthcoming elections in case whatever decision he makes has an adverse effect on Democrat votes. I REALLY hope that I'm wrong about that, but I simply do not understand why ANY President would allow this situation to continue - remember, our troops just suffered the deadliest month on record in Afghanistan.
So in a final message to the President I have this to say....
DO SOMETHING!!!
