I did think a while before deciding to put any politics into what I'm about to say, but I simply can't get the thought out of my head. You see we don't need Government to sort out our lives. We don't need their hand outs (our money of course); we don't need them MAKING us buy something we choose not to buy; we most certainly don't need Government running our Doctors and hospitals. We also don't need Government when it comes to good acts.
We The People understand our responsibilities to our fellow Americans and also to the people of the world. We The People most certainly should NOT send Haiti donations to the White House when there are many wonderful organisations who do a fantastic job in responding to disasters. That was the point Rush was making last week, but of course he was castigated for it - by some unlikely people as well as the usual suspects.
Anyway, the point of all this is that I have had a wonderful day today and I wanted to share some of it with you. Next week I will start my fifth year coaching High School Tennis. I am the non faculty Head Coach of the Dr Phillips High School Tennis Program (the picture above is of my 2009 team) and on Tuesday we begin our pre-season conditioning.
But today we did something else. Something new. Something that once again proved to me that We The People understand our responsibility to help our fellow Americans.
Today I held the first DP Open Challenge - a pre-season fundraising tournament which raised a tremendous amount of money despite the economy and the demands on everyone's finances.
Not only did some of my returning players and prospective 2010 players turn up, but also Alumni and adults with literally no connection to the program. We raised three times as much as the obligatory car wash and we had a lot of fun doing it. It also energized me and some of those players for the season to come.
THANK YOU to all who attended; to all who took part; to all who donated (including some from these pages) and to the local businesses who dug deep to provide prizes for our winning adults.
Great things are in store for DP Tennis this year I feel....
GO PANTHERS!
